The SAN DR concept is simple. A local source volume and a remote target volume are configured using SAN Fibre Switches, Hubs, iSCSI Routers and SNAS SV SAN Virtualization Appliance that connects to SAN and presents all attached storage as global storage pools. The replication and restore software continuously replicates data over a reliable iSCSI connection in real time from the local source volume to the remote target volume via IP network.
In the event of a disaster, there are two options. In a contained disaster, data from the remote target volume can be restored to a new or recovered local source volume. Users and applications can resume using the local source volume when the data is done being restored.
In a prolonged disaster, users and applications can be redirected from the local source volume to the remote target volume with minimal disruption of service and little or no data loss. When the local site is functional again, the replication and restore software can restore all data, via the IP network, from the active remote target volume to the new or recovered local source volume. All users and applications can then be redirected back to the local site.
